When the Workshop goes spooky, our mugs go boo. Presenting a cozy trio of Halloween cocoas — each with a North Pole twist — designed for sipping between costume alterations, pumpkin misfires, and absolutely-not-sentient decorations.

The Flight

  • 1) Midnight Marshmallow Cocoa: Classic dark cocoa with toasted marshmallow cap and a whisper of smoked cinnamon.
  • 2) Jack-o’-Latte Cocoa: Pumpkin–espresso cocoa with vanilla cream “jack-o’-lantern” drizzle.
  • 3) Black Forest Blizzard: Luxurious cherry–chocolate cocoa with chocolate shavings that “snow” when stirred.

Yields & Timing

Serves: 6 mini mugs (or 3 generous mugs). Total Time: ~25 minutes.

Base Cocoa Concentrate

  • 3 cups whole milk (or oat milk)
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup high-quality cocoa powder
  • 4 oz semisweet chocolate, finely chopped
  • 1/3 cup sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Mix-ins for each flavor listed below.

Make the Base

  1. Warm milk and cream in a saucepan over medium heat until steaming (don’t boil).
  2. Whisk in cocoa powder, sugar, and salt until smooth.
  3. Add chopped chocolate; stir until silky. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.
  4. Divide into three small saucepans (or heatproof pitchers) to flavor individually.

Flavor Profiles & Finishes

1) Midnight Marshmallow Cocoa

  • Stir in: 1/4 tsp smoked cinnamon + 1/8 tsp espresso powder.
  • Top: Toasted marshmallows (kitchen torch or broiler 10–20 seconds) + cocoa dust.
  • Optional charm: a De-Slump sprinkle (aka tiny pinch of flaky salt) to sharpen chocolate notes.

2) Jack-o’-Latte Cocoa

  • Stir in: 2 tbsp pumpkin purée + 1/4 tsp pumpkin spice + 2 tbsp hot espresso (or strong coffee).
  • Top: Lightly sweetened whipped cream. Pipe a simple jack-o’-lantern face with vanilla bean syrup or chocolate sauce.
  • Optional swirl: 1 tsp maple syrup for cozy depth.

3) Black Forest Blizzard

  • Stir in: 2 tbsp cherry preserves (seedless), whisked until dissolved.
  • Top: Shaved dark chocolate + a few cherry halves. For “blizzard” effect, dust with powdered sugar just before serving.
  • Optional grown-up note: a drop of almond extract (tiny! it’s potent).

Serving the Flight

  1. Prewarm mini mugs with hot water; discard before pouring.
  2. Line up the three cocoas from lightest flavor to boldest: Jack-o’-Latte → Midnight Marshmallow → Black Forest.
  3. Add labels or tiny tags; garnish immediately before serving so textures stay lively.

Elf Tips

  • Ultra-smooth cocoa: Bloom the cocoa powder with 2 tbsp hot water before whisking into milk.
  • Dairy-free: Use full-fat oat milk + coconut cream; add a pinch more salt to balance sweetness.
  • Make-ahead: Base keeps 3 days chilled. Rewarm gently; add flavorings just before serving.
  • Kid queue hack: Pour base into thermos; set out flavor “stations” so every mug gets a moment of magic.

Safety Note (Seasonal Shenanigans)

Do not prepare near active enchantments — spilled cocoa is a known magical conductor (see: Pumpkin Polishing Incident). Keep torches away from decorative cobweb charms. If your marshmallow begins singing, it’s over-toasted. Or haunted. Either way, new marshmallow.

Final Sip

Whether you’re soothing post-costume glitter or pre-gaming a spooky snow maze, this flight turns Halloween week into a warm, shareable ritual — three tiny potions, one cozy night.
